Harry James Chakalis, better known as "Bob" passed away suddenly at the Lahey Clinic North in Peabody on February 16, 2012. Born in Everett on June 1, 1928 to the late James & Moscha (Lavda) Chakalis. He served in the US Army for several years during peacetime. Mr. Chakalis worked as a manager in the food service business for over 40 years. He worked at the Hilltop Restaurant, for Seilers Catering and for the Marriott Corporation. Bob was a longtime resident of Melrose who loved the ocean and the times spent in Maine with his family. Harry summered each year at Camp Ellis in Saco, Maine where he enjoyed fishing on the jetty, walking the beach or using his metal detector. Mr. Chakalis was a longtime communicant of the Annunciation Cathedral of New England. He was the husband of 62 years to the late Kay (Ferentinos) Chakalis. Father of Georgia Verenis & her husband Stephen of Hanover, Cathy Scarlatos & her husband Peter of Melrose, James Chakalis & his wife Joanne of Hingham, Stephen Chakalis & his wife Leslie of Melrose and Demetra Haley & her husband George of Stoneham. Brother of the late John Chakalis and his late wife Heidi. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces & nephews. A Funeral service will be held at the Annunciation Cathedral of New England, 514 Parker St. Boston, on Monday February 20th at 11AM. Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend. Visitation will be held at church prior to the funeral on Monday morning from 10AM – 11AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
