Marguerite (Walsh) Donovan, of Melrose, formerly of Chelsea and Bass River, died in Melrose on Feb. 7, 2012 at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family. Marguerite was born & raised in the West End of Boston and a graduate of St. Joseph's Elementary School and Notre Dame Academy in Boston, Class of 1950. She went on to earn her degree from the Boston Teachers College in Boston, Class of 1954. She taught at the Prattville Elementary School in Chelsea. Marguerite and her husband raised their children in Chelsea and moved to Melrose in 1987. She was also a real estate broker, working in both Chelsea and Melrose. She is a former Trustee of the Chelsea Memorial Hospital. Marguerite was the beloved wife of the late John F. Donovan, Jr. for 35 years (former State Representative for Chelsea, former Chief Counsel Massachusetts House of Representatives and former Executive Vice-President and General Counsel, Boston Red Sox). Devoted daughter of the late Thomas J. & the late Catherine (Cuddy) Walsh. Loving mother of Jane D. Harney & her husband James of Melrose, John F. Donovan, III & his wife Laura Cella Donovan of Winchester, Catherine C. Donovan of Medford and Maryann D. Lynch & her husband John of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Annie, Jimmy, Alyssa, Caroline, Abby, Jack and Tim. Caring sister of Kathleen (Walsh) Leary & her husband George of Milton. Sister in law of Robert F. Donovan of Chelsea and the late Richard C. Donovan & his wife Kathleen of Arlington. Also survived by six nieces & one nephew. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday Feb. 10th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8PM. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Donations may be made in Marguerite's name to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Rd., Casco, ME 04015 or www.campsunshine.org.
